LUBAO, Pampanga — The newly established Pampanga Food Security Complex (PFSC) is set to provide farmers with better market access and post-harvest facilities as the province strengthens its agricultural and food security programs.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. personally inspected the facility in Barangay Sta. Catalina, Lubao, on Friday, July 24, alongside Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., Pampanga Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda, Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda, 2nd District Representative and former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Lubao Mayor Esmeralda G. Pineda, and officials from the Department of Agriculture and Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech).
The modern facility is expected to directly benefit more than 30,000 farmers across Pampanga by helping improve the handling and processing of agricultural products.
Through the PFSC, farmers are expected to gain access to a more reliable market for their harvests while reducing post-harvest losses and potentially increasing their income.
The facility is also expected to contribute to a more stable rice supply in the province.
According to Governor Pineda, the provincial government plans to directly purchase palay from small farmers and cooperatives. The harvested rice will then be processed at the facility, creating a more direct link between local producers and the provincial food supply system.
The initiative is aimed at providing farmers with a more dependable market while supporting efforts to strengthen the province’s agricultural economy.
During the same event, President Marcos also led the distribution of ₱17.7 million in Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to 21 associations.
Assistance was also provided to beneficiaries under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program, with DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian joining the activity.
The provincial government said the development of the PFSC forms part of broader efforts to promote agricultural growth, strengthen food security and improve the livelihoods of farmers across Pampanga.
