ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — Motorists and commuters are being advised to prepare for temporary road closures and traffic rerouting in parts of Angeles City on June 9 and 10 as authorities anticipate large crowds for the proclamation of Holy Rosary Parish as a Minor Basilica.
City officials announced that several streets surrounding the historic church district will be closed to vehicular traffic, while designated roads will operate under temporary one-way schemes to accommodate parishioners, church officials, guests, and visitors expected to attend the religious event.

The proclamation marks a significant milestone for Holy Rosary Parish, one of the oldest and most prominent Catholic churches in Central Luzon. The event is expected to draw attendees from across Pampanga and neighboring provinces.
Under the traffic management plan, Sto. Entierro Street will be closed from June 9 to June 10. The closure will cover the section stretching from the intersection with Santo Rosario Street near Uncle John’s convenience store to the corner of Miranda Street near the Pamintuan Mansion and LandBank.
Nepomuceno Street will also be closed during the same period. The affected section extends from the area near Heuristix and Dychioco Dental Clinic up to the vicinity of the Angeles City Library and Avon establishment.
On June 10, additional traffic restrictions will be implemented from 5 a.m. until noon. During this period, a portion of Sto. Rosario Street, from the Lakandula Street intersection near Southstar Drug and Porac Bank to Teresa Avenue near Dunkin’, will be closed to traffic.
Authorities will likewise enforce temporary one-way traffic along portions of Sto. Rosario Street and Saint Joseph Street on June 10 between 5 a.m. and noon.
The one-way traffic scheme will cover Sto. Rosario Street from Lakandula Street toward Saint Joseph Street, while Saint Joseph Street will operate in a single direction from the vicinity of Holy Angel University toward the Nepo and Newpoint commercial district.
Traffic personnel are expected to be deployed throughout the area to manage vehicle flow and assist motorists navigating alternate routes.
The road closures are intended to ensure public safety and facilitate the orderly movement of attendees during the religious ceremonies. Officials said the measures are necessary due to the anticipated increase in pedestrian traffic around the church and nearby streets.
Residents, business owners, public utility vehicle operators, and commuters traveling through the city center are encouraged to plan their trips ahead of time and allow for possible delays during the two-day event.
Religious gatherings in Pampanga often attract significant crowds, particularly when they involve major milestones within the Catholic Church. The elevation of a parish church to Minor Basilica status is considered a notable distinction granted by the Vatican, recognizing the church’s historical, spiritual, and pastoral importance.
Holy Rosary Parish, located in the heart of Angeles City’s heritage district, has long served as a religious and cultural landmark. The proclamation ceremony is expected to become one of the city’s largest religious events this year, prompting extensive traffic and crowd management preparations by local authorities.
Motorists are advised to follow traffic advisories, observe directional signs, and cooperate with traffic enforcers throughout the duration of the event.
