Manila — The Philippine Senate on Wednesday formally honored swimmer Kayla Sanchez, adopting a resolution that recognized her medal-winning performance at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.

Lawmakers approved Senate Resolution No. 31, commending Sanchez for what they described as an exceptional international campaign that underscored discipline, perseverance, and competitive excellence. The Filipina swimmer concluded the regional meet with a total of eight medals — three gold and five silver — making her one of the country’s most decorated athletes at the Games.

Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III led the chamber in acknowledging Sanchez’s achievements during the plenary session, with senators noting that her victories not only elevated Philippine sports but also served as a source of national pride and inspiration, particularly for young athletes.

Sanchez attended the session and received a copy of the resolution, drawing applause from lawmakers as she was recognized on the Senate floor.

The resolution cited her consistent high-level performances and her role in strengthening the Philippines’ standing in international swimming competitions, affirming the Senate’s support for athletes who bring honor to the country through global and regional sporting events.
