The International Criminal Court has denied former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s request for provisional release, ruling that his continued detention is warranted under the Rome Statute — the treaty that established the court.

In a decision dated October 10, the ICC’s Pre-Trial Chamber I said Duterte remains a potential flight risk and could obstruct proceedings or commit related offenses if released.
