MANILA, Philippines — Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson is set to reclaim his position as chair of the influential Senate Blue Ribbon Committee when the chamber resumes its second regular session in November, according to Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.

Sotto confirmed on Tuesday that Lacson would return to lead the powerful investigative body after stepping down earlier this month. The committee, known for probing government corruption and anomalies, has been at the center of recent discussions on questionable flood control projects.

Lacson’s resignation, dated October 7, was addressed to Sotto. In his letter, the veteran senator explained that he was stepping aside following concerns from several colleagues about the “direction” of the committee’s ongoing hearings.

While the resignation created brief uncertainty about the committee’s leadership, Sotto said Lacson’s reinstatement in November is already settled. “He’s definitely coming back,” Sotto told reporters, emphasizing that the decision was mutually agreed upon within Senate leadership.

The Blue Ribbon Committee, officially known as the Committee on Accountability of Public Officers and Investigations, plays a crucial role in maintaining government transparency. Lacson, a former national police chief and long-time lawmaker, is expected to resume investigations into public infrastructure projects and other pending issues once the Senate reconvenes.

His return marks a significant development in the upper chamber’s internal dynamics, as the committee continues to navigate politically charged inquiries that often test alliances within the Senate.
