Manila (PNA) — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla as the country’s new Ombudsman, Malacañang confirmed Tuesday.

In a statement, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said Remulla is expected to strengthen anti-corruption efforts, promote transparency, and ensure fair and efficient delivery of justice.

“President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirms that transparency, fairness, and the rule of law will remain the guiding principles of this administration’s pursuit of a Bagong Pilipinas that truly serves the Filipino people,” the PCO said.

Remulla succeeds Samuel Martires, whose term ended on July 27. He previously served as Justice Secretary since June 2022, where he led reforms to modernize the justice system, decongest prisons, and improve access to legal services.

His appointment comes as the government faces public and congressional scrutiny over alleged irregularities in infrastructure and flood control projects.

The PCO emphasized that the Marcos administration will intensify its anti-corruption campaign.
“The administration remains firm in its commitment to fight corruption wherever it exists,” it said. “There will be no sacred cows, no exemptions, and no excuses.”

PCO acting Secretary Dave Gomez told reporters that Remulla underwent a “stringent” selection process led by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).

“At the end of the day, after the President receives the recommendation of the JBC, it is still the decision of the President after he receives the shortlist,” Gomez said.
