Cupertino, California — Apple has officially sold 3 billion iPhones since the device first launched in 2007, according to Apple CEO Tim Cook, who shared the milestone during the company’s third-quarter earnings call, TechCrunch reported.

Apple reached its first billion iPhone sales in 2016 — nine years after the smartphone’s debut — and has now sold an additional two billion units in roughly the same span, underscoring the enduring demand for its flagship product.

Despite this achievement, Apple’s market performance has seen some challenges this year as the company trails Nvidia and Microsoft in overall market valuation. Still, stronger-than-expected iPhone sales provided a bright spot in its latest earnings report.

Revenue from iPhone sales rose 13% year-over-year to $44.6 billion, accounting for nearly half of Apple’s $94 billion total quarterly revenue, based on figures shared during the earnings call.

Industry observers note that the recent boost in sales could be temporary. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested the increase may have been influenced by consumer concerns over potential price hikes linked to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs.
