MANILA — The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) clarified on Friday that no criminal complaint has been filed as of December 12, 2025, against the individual allegedly responsible for the killing of Axle, despite claims circulating on social media.
In an update posted on its official Facebook page, PAWS said its volunteers on the ground, who are coordinating with a reliable source, confirmed that reports stating a case had already been filed were inaccurate.
PAWS Executive Director Atty. Anna Cabrera addressed the misinformation directly, urging the public to correct what she described as false updates.
“Can all those who post ‘Case has been filed’ in the viral Axle (dog)-killing case take down their false update?” Cabrera wrote. “No case has been filed as of today, December 12, 2025. I do not know if this is a tactic to mislead the public. What we do know for sure is: no case has been filed.”
Cabrera added that PAWS continues to face significant obstacles in pursuing the case but remains determined to seek accountability.
“PAWS is working — with great difficulty — to maneuver through all the roadblocks thrown our way, but we are determined to seek #JusticeForAxle,” she said.
The animal welfare group said it has already obtained additional critical information, including details about the accused, which it plans to use in independently pursuing legal action.
PAWS appealed to the public for continued support and patience as the organization works to move the case forward.
“Please continue to stand with us in strength and patience as we work tirelessly, despite significant challenges,” the group said, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that justice is served for Axle.
The case has sparked widespread public outrage online, with animal welfare advocates calling for accountability and stronger enforcement of animal protection laws. PAWS said it will provide further updates as developments arise.
