MANILA, Philippines — Megaworld’s innovative approach to flood management could offer relief to flood-prone communities, says tycoon Kevin Tan.
In a recent social media post, Kevin Tan, president and CEO of Alliance Global Group Inc., shared plans to expand Megaworld’s Rainwater Park concept to additional townships across the country. The initiative is aimed at tackling persistent flooding issues in urban areas.
Tan highlighted the success of the Rainwater Park in Capital Town, a 35-hectare township developed by Megaworld in Pampanga. According to him, the project has significantly reduced flooding in nearby neighborhoods.
“Before we developed the township, heavy rains would flood the area around the capital building, sometimes reaching waist height, and it could take up to a week for the waters to recede. It was a major challenge for the local community,” Tan said.
