A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck Surigao del Sur on Saturday night, October 18, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The tremor occurred at 8:31 p.m., with its epicenter located 23 kilometers southeast of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, at a depth of 20 kilometers.
PHIVOLCS recorded an Intensity IV in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur — indicating that many residents felt the shaking indoors and some light objects were displaced. Meanwhile, Intensity I was reported in Davao City, where the quake was barely perceptible to most people.
Instrumental intensities were logged at Intensity III in Cabadbaran City (Agusan del Norte), Digos City (Davao del Sur), Nabunturan (Davao de Oro), Bislig City, and Tandag City (Surigao del Sur).
Authorities confirmed that this event is an aftershock of the magnitude 6.0 offshore earthquake that hit Surigao del Sur on October 11, 2025.
As of now, no damage or injuries have been reported. PHIVOLCS advised residents to stay alert for possible aftershocks and follow safety protocols during seismic events.
