Angeles City, Philippines — Education officials are verifying reports circulating online that around 9,000 students across local schools have developed flu-like symptoms, the Schools Division Office of Angeles City said on Tuesday.
In a statement, the division clarified that the figures being shared on social media are preliminary and unverified, based on advisory-level surveys conducted by school personnel. The data, officials said, has not yet undergone full validation or cross-checking by the School Health and Nutrition Unit (SHNU).

To confirm the actual number of affected students, the division has coordinated with the City Health Office to conduct a joint assessment and ensure an accurate count.
“We understand the concern this news may have caused among parents, educators, and the general public. The health and well-being of our learners are our top priorities, and we are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and urgency,” the office said.
Officials also expressed sympathy for students who may be unwell and assured that appropriate measures will be implemented once data is confirmed.
The public is urged to avoid spreading unverified information as the validation process continues.
